Ars Bioarctica field report #1 - Soichiro Mihara (JP)

Please, join us for an artist talk by Japanese artist Soichiro Mihara in our new series of presentations by Ars Bioarctica residents. Soichiro Mihara is currently Art Bioarctica artist-in-residence at the Kilpisjärvi biological station.

The talk will be held on the 17th of October at 5 pm at AV-arkki office at the Cable Factory, C-staircase on the 4th floor. The talk will be in English.

"Aiming to make art that openly engages with the world, Soichiro Mihara creates systems employing a wide range of materials, media and technologies such as acoustics, bubble, radiation, rainbow, microbes, moss, and continually questions the “here and now.” Since 2011, when earthquake suffered east side of Japan, he has been working on a “blanks project” which explores beyond the boundaries of the systems that drive modern society. He has been collaborated with musicians, artists, electronic instrument engineer, haptic researchers.

From 2005, he has shown and awarded his several project internationally. Solo exhibition as “The World Filled With Blanks” (Kyoto Art Center, Kyoto, Jpan, 2016, Kunstraum Kreuzberg / Bethanien, Berlin, 2013), and group exhibitions as“Elements of Art and Science”(Ars Electronica Center, Linz, 2015-16)“Sound Art ‒ Sound as a Medium of Art” (ZKM, Karlsruhe, 2012-13), “Open Space 2012” (NTTICC, 2012), “Simple Interaction―Sound Art from Japan” (Museum of Contemporary Art, Roskilde, Denmark, 2011) and “ISEA RUHR2010” (Dortmunder Kunstverein, Dortmund, 2010). "
